Member categories and benefits

West Midlands Police Benevolent Fund has existed since 1974 and, over the years, our membership categories have changed to make them more cost-effective.

Some categories have become ‘protected’ which means and they are not available for new members. This also means that members in different categories pay different amounts and are entitled to different benefits. All benefits are paid at the absolute discretion of the Management Committee as set out in the Fund’s rules.

These are the membership categories, how much they cost and their associated benefits:

Full members (serving officer or police staff employee)

Subscription per month is £2. You can apply for these benefits:

  • Interest-free loans
  • Grants
  • Debt counselling
  • Small gifts (sickness vouchers)
  • Convalescence
  • £60 travelling expenses for Police Rehabilitation Centre
  • Death grants of £3,500 to nominated person
  • £25 per week to children of deceased officer or police staff employee up to 16 years of age or 18 if in full-time education

Full members (retired officer or police staff employee)

Subscription per month is £1. You can apply for these benefits:

  • Interest-free loans
  • Grants
  • Debt counselling
  • Small gifts (sickness vouchers)
  • Convalescence
  • £60 travelling expenses for Police Rehabilitation Centre

Former dependent children who are members

Subscription per month is £1 or £10 per year paid in advance by Direct Debit. You can apply for these benefits:

  • Interest-free loans
  • Grants
  • Debt counselling
  • Small gifts (sickness vouchers)
  • Convalescence

Protected Members (serving officer and police staff employee)

Subscription is £5 per month. You can apply for these benefits:

  • Interest-free loans
  • Grants
  • Debt counselling
  • Small gifts (sickness vouchers)
  • Convalescence
  • £60 travelling expenses for Police Rehabilitation Centre
  • £600 medical consultation limit
  • Death grants of £3,500 to nominated person
  • £25 per week to children of deceased officer up to 16 years of age or 18 if in full time education

Protected Members (retired officer or police staff employee)

Subscription is £3.75 per month. You can apply for these benefits:

  • Interest Loans
  • Grants
  • Debt counselling
  • Small gifts (sickness vouchers)
  • Convalescence
  • £60 travelling expenses for Police Rehabilitation Centre
  • £600 medical consultation limit
