Benevolent Fund’s Rewards and Recognition programme promotes well being

Over 100 staff and officers attended a Wellbeing event held at West Bromwich police station last month.

Organised by the Partnerships department at Sandwell, over 20 organisations, including the Benevolent Fund, were on hand to offer support and advice on matters including, mental and physical health, emotional support and finances.

Free health checks for officers and staff were also available with over 35 people signing up for blood pressure and cholesterol checks.

The event was so popular there are now plans to roll it out across the force and the next Wellbeing day is being organised for Wolverhampton NPU.

Lillie Abbott, the NPU’s Vulnerability, Early help and Referral officer, said: “We would like to thank all the organisations for their support and help in organising the day, they made sure the event was a huge success.

“In particular we would like to thank WMP Benevolent Fund who donated £100 towards the force’s Rewards and Recognition programme for use with this year’s Well Being agenda, this enabled us to buy a Fitbit which was offered as a prize to anyone who signed up for a health check, congratulations to Karen Weston from the PPU who won the Fitbit.

The Benevolent Fund will also be attending this event so please stop by and see us.

Police staff – We’re here for you too!
We are pleased to say that word is getting around that WMP police staff are entitled to join the West Midlands Police Benevolent Fund as well as serving officers. This year we have welcomed more police staff to the Benevolent Fund than ever before. Out of our 6300 plus members, just under 200 are police staff colleagues, so we still have work to do to spread the word about the benefits of joining. In April this year we paid out...

“Bottling things up inside, doesn’t make it go away! How WMP Benevolent Fund helped me”
Sometimes our pride or our desire not to show signs of weakness means we don’t ask for help. Thankfully one member finally turned to us for help and we were glad to offer our support. “I just wanted to say, that when I came to you, I was in a complete mess; financially, psychologically and physically. It was a very low point in both my career and my personal life. I approached the Benevolent Fund as a last resort, I’ve...

AGM celebrates successes and shares future plans
We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended our AGM last Friday. It was a great turn out and lovely to chat to members over lunch. Our Chairman John Williams opened the event by firstly paying tribute to all the serving officers, in all those cities, who have risen to the challenge and given their all following the recent tragedies in Manchester and London. John went on to explain the recent changes to our management committee,...

Helping our members, to get the right support for their children
We get a lot of satisfaction from knowing the small part we play in helping members often makes a big difference to their lives and the lives of their family. One member, who we helped recently, was really grateful for our support. “Our 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with Autism which although a relief to finally have an answer it did not give us direction as to how to support her during her academic years. Thanks to the Benevolent...
